Mrs. Louise Bumgarner, age 96, passed away on September 4, 2011 at Burke Hospice.

She was preceded in death by her husband Will, sons Bill and Ed, son-in-law Jerry Gulsby and grandson Andrew Gulsby and her twin sister, Lois Bryant. She and her sister were adopted at an early age by D. P. and Eliza Leatherman, who along with their son Press and wife Mary also preceded her in death.

She was born in Texas in 1914 and brought to NC at an early age and placed in Greensboro Children's home soon thereafter.

Surviving are her son David and wife Cindy Bumgarner of Greensboro, daughters Betty and husband Herbert Garrou of Valdese, Barbara and husband Tony Andrew of Hickory, Rita and husband Bill Viggers of Valdese, Anita Gulsby of Valdese and Connie and husband Dan Mull of Rutherford College. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Nieces, nephews and a close friend Linda Atkinson of Darlington, SC.

For many years she worked in the hoisery mills and then she worked with her sister in the paint industry until retirement.

She was an active member of Abee's Grove Baptist Church for many years until she was no longer able to attend due to health problems.

The family will receive friends at Heritage Funeral Service from 1 until 2:30 PM on Friday, Sept 9, 2011, followed by the funeral service in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service at 3:00 PM, with Rev. Rudy Hayes officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Hickory, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial will be appreciated to Abee's Grove Baptist Church, 654 Avee's Grove Rd., Valdese, NC 28690 or to Burke Hospice and palliative Care, 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690.
