The journey of this life ended peacefully with a beautiful prayer for passage to the Lord's care for Ann Lorraine Holden Frank Stewart on Friday, August 3rd. Surrounded by her loving husband, children and family, Ann, 83, left the confusion and pain for the love, caring, and light of her new life.

Ann Lorraine Holden was born August 9th, 1928 in Winston-Salem to Loraine Burkheimer Holden and Randall Francis Holden. The oldest of four children, she grew up in Washington D.C. and attended Holton-Arms School there. Her father's work with Southern Railway led the family to Charlotte, NC, where she met Charlotte native, Lewis Coffey Frank, shortly after World War II, and married the Marine fighter pilot in 1949. They settled in Charlotte and began raising their family, eventually two daughters and a son. Ann worked part time for the Charlotte Observer while raising her children.

Lewis' work in the furniture business took the family to Salisbury in 1964, where Ann worked as her children grew older, first with Drs. Paul Green, Joel Goodwin, and Mal Parada, in their OB-GYN practice; then, with Sherrill and Smith CPA; and retired from the Salisbury City Schools, where she worked in the Guidance Office.

Ann was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Salisbury for 48 years, where she was active in Lutheran Church Women, served on the church council, and coordinated the Wedding Guild.

After the death of her husband Lewis in 1998, Ann met David Eugene Stewart and they married in 2000. The two built a loving life together, David, devoted to Ann, even as dementia began to steal her away. He stayed with her nearly every day through the years of her illness, supporting her in every step. David's adopted family came to love and respect him for his love and dedication to Ann, and the families blended beautifully through their love.

Ann Lorriane Holden Frank Stewart was preceded in death by her first husband of 49 years, Lewis Coffey Frank, and a brother, Randall Wayne Holden, of California. She is survived by husband David Eugene Stewart, of the home; daughters, Susan Frank Meade of Asheville and Mills River, NC; Rindi Frank Haynes of Kernersville, NC; and a son, Steven Lewis Frank, of Boone. She is also survived by one brother, Harry R. Holden, of Conyers, Ga.; a sister, Carol Holden Martin, of Fredericksburg, Va.; six grandchildren, and one great-grand child.

A memorial service for Ann Holden Frank Stewart will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church on W. Innes Street in Salisbury, on Tuesday, August 7th, at 2pm. Inurnment will follow in the columbarium at the church, and receiving will be held in the church library immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Salisbury, or to the Alzheimer's Unit at Trinity Oaks, Klumac Road, Salisbury.
