William did live in Clark County, Missouri according to the 1850 & 1860 Census, these and all other census records have him being born in Kentucky. Missouri marriage records have William and Talitha being married on 04 Nov 1869 in Marion County, Missouri.

W. H. CARPENTER DEAD
W. H. Carpenter, one of the best known and oldest citizens of Round Grove township, died at his home at Emerson last Thursday and his funeral services were held the following afternoon. Mr. Carpenter was in his eighty-third year, and though born in Clark county, had spent most of hi life in Marion. He was a carpenter by trade, and also owned a farm, but disposed of it several years ago when advancing years made it impossible for him to actively superintend it. His wife died last spring and he had no children or blood relatives in this vicinity, but connection by marriage was large, and he had many friends who will grieve sincerly at the news of his death.
