Roman Catholic Cardinal. A native of Milan, Alessandro Lualdi and received his education at the local seminary and later in Rome, at the Theological Academy of Saint Thomas Aquinas and at the Seminario Lombardo, earning doctorates in theology, philosophy and canon law. Ordained priest on October 30, 1880 in Milan, he was appointed to the teaching staff of the local seminary and later of the Vatican Seminary and the Collegio Leonino in Rome. Rector of the Collegio Lombardo between 1894 and 1904, he was named privy chamberlain of His Holiness on September 14, 1899, socius of the Roman Academy of Saint Thomas Aquinas and of the Theological Academy of Milan, and domestic prelate on January 7, 1904. At forty six years of age, he was elected archbishop of the metropolitan see of Palermo, Sicily, by Pope Pius X, receiving his episcopal consecration on December 4, 1904, from Cardinal Francesco di Paola Cassetta, protector of the Collegio Lombardo, at the church of San Carlo al Corso in Rome. The named Pope created him cardinal in the consistory of April 15, 1907 with the title of Ss. Andrea e Gregorio al Monte Celio. Papal legate to the 8th centennial celebrations of Sant'Agata held in Catania on July 27, 1926, Cardinal Lualdi passed away in Palermo and lies interred in the chapel of Santa Rosalia inside the metropolitan cathedral of the city. Shortly before his death, he had the diocesan museum of Palermo established.
