Preston Duncan Workman passed away peacefully at his home in Lovell, Wyoming, on July 27, 2012, after a brief battle with lung cancer.

Pres was born on October 19, 1925, in Delta, Utah. He was the third child of nine children of Martha Lucetta Duncan and Claude Cornelius Workman. Pres married Greta Godfrey, March 20, 1954, in Billings, Montana; their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had two daughters, Marla and Trudy.

Schooling for Preston began at the stone schoolhouse in Shell, Wyoming. Following the family's return to Lovell, he completed his schooling in the Lovell schools, graduating in 1943 and directly entered the U. S. Navy and served in World War II.

After the war, Pres worked as a carpenter on the old Lovell water plan as a pumper for Carter Oil Refinery, did seismograph work for the Shell Oil Company, did ranch work and hauled hay for various ranchers, worked at the sugar factory, rough necked in the oil fields, was an operator at the Manderson Sulphur plant, and was a Standard Gas station attendant.

In 1960, he moved his family to Billings, Montana, where he trained to become and x-ray technician. Following his registration with the National Society of Radiology as a radiologic technologist; he was employed at North Big Horn Hospital where he worked for 35 years. He was active I the Wyoming Society of X-ray Technicians and served as president. He wrote and submitted certification requirements for x-ray technicians to practice in Wyoming, which the legislators passed.

Pres was very dedicated to his responsibilities to the community. He serve 12 years on the Lovell City Council and then as Lovell Mayor. He was a charter member of the Lovell Toastmasters Club and served as president. He participated in many community activities.

Preston served as Boy Scout counselor and as a home teacher in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was also a young men's teacher. He and Greta served as ordinance workers in the Billings, Montana Temple and as missionaries at the Family History Center.

His interests were fishing, hunting, rock hounding, lapidary, local history, and golfing. He especially enjoyed visiting, reminiscing, and sharing stories with his family and friends.
Preston was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Neil, Trulon, Croft, Hulbert, and sisters Venita and Eva Lou.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years; his daughters and son-in-law Marla and Norma Winters of Otto, Wyoming, and Trudy of Lovell. His grandchildren Amy and Matt Gardner, Patricia and Trevor Casey, Clifford and Meredith Winter, Ryan and Eric Cohen, Rachel, Victoria, Cozette, and Lisa Winters; and Scott and Stephanie Winters; he had eleven great-grandchildren. Surivors also include his brothers Dallen and Patricia Workman, Claude and Glenna Workman, and brother-in-law Scott B. Smith.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday, August 2, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at the Lovell east chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Viewing will be an hour earlier at 9:00 a.m. in the west chapel. Interment will follow at the Cowley Cemetery.
