From the Bremen Enquirer, 1948: "Henry W. Bornemann, who was one of the oldest business men in Bremen in years of active service, has retired from business after operating a shoe store and repair shop for almost 55 years. He has sold his stock and equipment to Albert Stockinger. Mr. Bornemann started in business here June 1, 1893. From a small shoe repair shop his place grew into a show room in its own building on East North St. Still later he moved to his North Center street location now occupied by his son, M.G. Bornemann, as a manufacturing plant."
