John L. Nelson, 72, of Willard died at a Brigham City Hospital Thursday at three-twenty p.m. after a lingering illness.

He was born January 19, 1867, at Logan the son of John W. and Jane Laird Nelson. He married Rilla Hardman in Oregon where he worked as stage coach driver and "lumber Jack" in the logging camps of Oregon. To this union three children were born. He later moved to Newton, Utah where he worked as contract teamster and employee of the O.S.L. Railroad. Here he met and married Rachel B. Baird of Newton. To this union five children were born four of who survive. Nelson, before his death was one of the few people living who saw Brigham Young.

Surviving are his wife and the following sons and daughters; Baird Nelson and Fay Nelson both of Willard; Robert Nelson and Mrs. Glen Simper of Brigham City; Mrs. Myrtle Petersen, Mrs. Blanche Cox and Gay Nelson all of Oregon, also surviving are his mother ninety of Logan and his former wife of Oregon.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at two p.m. in the Willard LDS Ward Chapel by Bishop J. Wesley Horsley. Interment will be in the Willard City Cemetery, under the direction of Harold B. Felt. Friends may call at the family home in Willard Sunday until the time of the services.
