A native of Hagerstown, he was educated here and at Baltimore, and at North Carolina State College. He went to Raleigh in 1921 as secretary of the Raleigh Merchants Association, and later with the North Carolina Retailer, publication of the North Carolina Merchants Association.
He joined the NCEA staff in 1930 and had served as advertising manager and exhibit director of the association for 29 years.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, and a charter member of the Raleigh Lions Club. He initiated the idea for what is now the North Carolina Debutante Ball.
He was the son of Mrs. John L. Bikle and the late John L. Bikle. Surviving are his wife, his mother; a son, John G. Bikle of Wilson, N.C.; daughter, Mrs. Joe Christian, Greenboro, N.C.; two grandchildren; brothers, Edwin and Charles G. Bikle of Hagerstown; sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Spielman and Mrs. Charlotte Shrader of Hagerstown.
