BERNARD M. VENARD

Bernard Mallory Venard, age 81, of 501 N. 5th St., Burlington, Iowa, died Sunday morning, May 8, 1994 at the Burlington Medical Center. The son of Claude B. and Sue Mallory Venard, he was born September 21, 1912 near Oakville, Iowa. He was a graduate of Oakville High School and had attended Parsons College at Fairfield.

He married Nellie M. Brown on January 4, 1938 at Bettendorf. He had worked on a river dredge and also the construction of the Keokuk dam and the farmed before he worked and retired from Murray Iron Works at Burlington as a machinist. He was of the Presbyterian faith and had belonged to the Operating Engineers Union.

Survivors include his wife, Nellie; three daughters, Darlene Venard, Mary Watson, and Sue Martin, all of Burlington; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a half-brother, Harry Venard of Zephyr Hills, Florida; a step-sister, Marjorie Mellinger of Yuma, Arizona; a step-brother, Robert Johnson of West Covina, California; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Opal Venard; three half-brothers, Pat, Perry, and Charles Venard; and two step-brothers, Kenneth and Ross Johnson.

Graveside rites were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 1994 at the Wapello Cemetery with Rev. Jerry D. Brown officiating. The family met with friends Tuesday evening at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello.

A Memorial Fund has been established.
