Daniel Curtis (Curt) Gore

Curt was born to George Fletcher and Annie Florence "Florrie" Long Gore in the Shallotte/Southport area of North Carolina in 1899, one month shy of being born in the new century. He was one of George's ten children. His mother was George's second wife.

Curt decided to migrate north to the Rocky Mount/Tarboro area, and then settled in Roanoke Rapids with his wife, Ella Mae, and 2 sons, Bob and Dan (who were born 10 years apart), in the 1920s. He was employed by JP Stevens Co. in the local cotton and textile mill for 30 years.

His wife passed away in 1968, so he spent the next 12 years in the same home they had shared. He continued gardening for many years, until his health and old age started slowing him down. He continued deep-sea fishing, one of his favorite hobbies, for several more years. He was also known to occasionally smoke Swisher Sweet Cherry Cigars, and the pleasant aroma would fill the house, leaving a lasting impression.

He passed away peacefully in his home, sitting on his couch, while his son, Bob, was visiting with him on Sept 8, 1980. He was almost 80 years old. He is missed very much by all of his grandchildren, and will always remain in their hearts.

Curt had 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren when he passed away. As of Feb. 2015, he now has 22 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren carrying on the family name.
