Alma Jean Short, 70, of 113 W. Carlton, Frontenac, died at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at Mt. Carmel Medical Center, after a long illness. She was born Feb. 19, 1930, north of Arma in rural Crawford County, to Charles and Gertrude Green Stotts. She attended area schools.

She married John Samuel Short on Oct. 29, 1949, at Girard. He preceded her in death Jan. 25, 1985.

Mrs. Short was a homemaker. She also was owner and operator of Short's Trash Service with her husband from 1949 to 2000.

She was a longtime resident of Frontenac.

She was was a member of the the Frontenac United Methodist Church and the Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Short and Jack Short, both of Frontenac; a daughter, Carol Maransani of Pittsburg; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Friskel Funeral Home, with the Rev. Verl Strong officiating. Burial will follow in the Frontenac City Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Friday. Arrangements are under the direction of the Friskel Funeral Home, 230 E. McKay, Frontenac.
