RET. COL. EDWIN MITCHELL, Clemson, SC

Col. Edwin Thomas Mitchell, 86 formerly of Clemson Downs passed away Thursday, June 28, 2007 at Wuesthoff Brevard Hospice House. Born in Atlanta, GA in 1921. He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and immediately entered the U. S. Army, serving in WWII. He was in the North African and European Theaters including the Invasion of Southern France, earning a bronze star and four battle stars, later retiring from the Army Reserve as a Colonel after 30 years of service. Mr. Mitchell was employed in the Property and Casualty insurance industry for more than 35 years, retiring as a vice president with Insurance Services Office in New York. He was very active in retirement as an Oconee county election official, member of the Republican party, Rotary International, and Friends of the Library... His wife Virginia Adams Mitchell, son Clarke Edwin Mitchell, and parents Edwin Dayton and Essie Bryan Mitchell precede him in death. A memorial service will be held 11 am, Saturday, July 28, 2007 in the Mausoleum Chapel of Heritage Memorial Gardens, Hwy. 11, Westminster. Memorials in Mr. Mitchell's memory may be made to the Westminster Library fund at 112 W North Ave., Westminster, SC 29693 or the Collins Home & Family Ministries at P O Box 745, Seneca, SC 29679.
