Award Hundreds of Merit Badges, Advancements in Rank at Scout Ceremony
Total of 866 advancements in rank and merit badges were awarded at Wednesday night’s annual court of honor of Old Baldy council, Boy Scouts of America, in Chaffey Junior college gymnasium, an event in the current Boy Scout anniversary week which attracted a crown of approximately 2,000 scouts and spectators. Eagle scout badges, the highest awards, went to 11 scouts.
These 11 were: Harold Hamner, Alta Loma (and 10 others).
Mothers of the boys pinned the badges on them.

Alta Loma Pilot Prisoner of Nazis
Alta Loma, July 7 - Lt. Harold Hamner, 21, Thunderbolt pilot and member of a fighter bomber squadron, who was reported missing following his sixth bombing mission over Italy on May 26, last, is a German war prisoner.
That was the gratifying word received today by his parents, Mr. and Mrs/ L. G. Hamner, 1253 Amethyst avenue, who were notified by the war department a month ago that he was missing.
Word that Lt. Hamner was contained in a letter from Capt. Jack Wasserman, his squadron commander, who recounted that the Alta Loman had parachuted safely to earth and that Italians had attempted to help him evade the Germans, but unsuccessfully.

Major William A. Jones of Ontario yesterday was reported by the war department as missing in action in the European area. His wife is Mrs. Ida L. Jones of 227 West B street, Ontario.
Also reported missing in action in the Asiatic war theater was Second Lt. Harold G. Hamner of Alta Loma. His mother is Mrs. Susie S. Hamner of 1253 Amethyst avenue, Alta Loma.
