ASHLAND Leona Ruth Messer, 86, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007 at Jackson County Nursing Facility, Holton.

She was born April 29, 1921 to Edward M. and Pearl Cooper Ederidge at Hugo, Okla. She married Loftis Doey Messer on Dec. 28, 1940. He preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 1990.

She graduated from Goodland, Okla. High School in 1940. She was the Clark County Sheriffs Department Dispatch office manager and cook from 1969 to 1989.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, Ashland and various other activities of the church.

Survivors include her sons, Howard Messer and wife, Kay, Soldier, Johnny Messer and wife, Marcia, Alta Vista, and Phillip Messer and wife, Debbie, N. Charleston, SC., and Mark Messer and wife, Melanie, Wellsville; daughters, Hilda DeVillier and husband, Gene, Lake Charles, LA., Norma Suire and husband, Mike, Ashland, Nona German and husband, Randy, Soldier; sister, Lula Belle Shiem, Mass.; 27 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Henry Everidge and sister, Claudia Dillard.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church, Ashland with Rev. Jim Sutherland presiding. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery, Ashland.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Myatt Funeral Home, Ashland.
