Edrie Eithel Ballard, 82, of Haddalton died March 29, 2004, at Boone Memorial Hospital.

She was born January 12, 1922, at Jeffrey, a daughter of the late Carlos Howard and Elva Ball Elkins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, H. Sebert Ballard, and son, Rodney Wayne Ballard.

She was a piano teacher for 58 years at her home and also taught for the Boone County school system. A graduate of Scott High School, she also graduated from Concord College in Athens.

She leaves behind an amazing legacy of talented musicians that can be found all over the area and beyond, including her children and grandchildren.

She was a member of the Washington Heights Church of God, and a Christian.

Surviving: daughter and caretaker, Jenny Ballard, at home; sons, Larry Ballard of Haddalton, Joe (Marilyn) Ballard of Logan, Terry (Janet) Ballard of Huntington, and one special “adopted” son, Charlie Ray, at home; brother, Don C. (Elnora) Elkins of Logan; grandchildren, Susan Ballard Shreve of Washington Heights, Michael (Paula) Ballard of Holly Hills, and Jennifer Ballard of Danville; three great-grandchildren; two nephews and one great-nephew.

Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Stevens Funeral Home with her son, Rev. Joe Ballard officiating.

Burial will follow in Boone Memorial Park.
