"Stella Beardsley was born near Fredericktown, Missouri, August 30, 1896. She was the daughter of Ahira Jonathan and Hulda (FUNK) Beardsley. Her father died in 1905 and her mother in 1946.
She graduated from Ironton High School (now Arcaqdia Valley High) in 1918 and went on to Missouri University at Columbia where she got her degree, majoring in history.
After teaching several years in a St. Louis High School, she moved to Florida where she taught for some 40 years in the high schools of Cross City and Gainesville.
When Stella retired she moved to Inverness, Florida, where she belonged to the PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH AND THE ORGANIZATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN. She was a charter member of the IRON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY.
Stella’s maternal grandfather, Gottlieb Funk, when he was 33 years of age, with his wife, Wilhelmine OHLS Funk, and their five children left Germany by sailship for New Orleans and then came up the Mississippi by steamboat to St. Louis. On the 40-day voyage one son died and was buried at sea. They arrived in St. Louis early in 1850 and went by train to Pilot Knob. Gottlieb Funk purchased a farm near Vulcan. Because of the war (Civil War) and the “bushwhackers” around Annapolis, he moved to Pilot Knob to be near the Fort and purchased a lot in 1963 from the Pilot Knob Iron Company.
In 1868 he purchased a farm on Funk Branch (which was named for him) four miles southwest of Annapolis. He lived there until his death in 1911 when he was 85 years old. The farm is now owned by Dr. Ernest Funk. (he willed it to his niece "Nancy Schmidt" who resides on the farm part time.) 2008 KF
We do not have much information about Stella Beadsley’s father. We learned he was born February 25, 1833, and died January 2, 1905. Among her pictures was one of the Manolia Mills which had the notation that is was the first roller mill in Southeast Missouri and was owned by A. J. Beadsley, Marquand, Missouri.
Stella died in 1984. She was the first to include the Historical Society in her will."
