Doris Jennifer Moore Campbell, 88, of Groundhog Road in Canton, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012 at Pisgah Manor Health Care in Candler.

Mrs. Campbell was born March 27, 1924 in Norwich, Norfolk England to the late Percy Williams Moore and the late Dorothy Smith Parker Moore. She received her education in England and also served as a member of the Womens Land Army in England during World War II. On December 22, 1946, Mrs. Campbell arrived in New York City to make her home in the United States of America and on November 30, 1979, she proudly became a US citizen. She chose to make her home the mountains of Western North Carolina where she has touched many lives with her friendship, caring heart and kindness. She had served as a volunteer at the Haywood County Hospital and was a dedicated member of Saint Andrews Episcopal Church in Canton for 58 years. Doris was a wonderful cook, enjoyed reading and loved to knit. Two memorable moments in her lifetime were meeting Prince Charles and the Arch Bishop of Canterbury, Dr. George Carey. Doris loved her family dearly and her precious memory will remain in their hearts forever.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Bruce Harris; sisters, June Roberts, Muriel Lee and Winnifred Moore.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 68 years, James Ralph Campbell; her daughter, Jennifer Harris of Candler ; her sons, Leroy Campbell and his wife, Susan Campbell of Candler, Clive Campbell of Hayesville and Alan Campbell of Black Mountain; grandchildren, Robin Paine and her husband, Mark Paine and Christina Rowe and her husband, Richard Rowe ; great-grandchildren, Alex Paine, Coleson Rowe and Landon Rowe.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church with Father Tim McRee officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the memorial service.
