Obituary in Merced Sun Star, 9 Jan 1943: Mrs. Sarah Turner, Former Le Grand Resident, Is Dead -- Funeral services will be held at Ivers and Alcorn funeral home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock for Mrs Sarah Savana Turner, 85, who died in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Cora Eubanks of Lathrop, Friday night... Mrs. Turner was the first white child born on the frontiers of Texas, July 17, 1857... When a small child, she moved with her parents to Missouri and from there to Illinois where, at the age of 18, she was married to a Mr. Brown, who died four years later.
She moved back to Missouri where she met and married Luther Turner, a grandson of Capt. Nicholas Turner, who was one of the first white settlers of the Le Grand district. They came to California in 1887, settling on a ranch along Owens creek. Mr. Turner died in 1902. She then moved into Le Grand and made her home there until last October when she moved to Lathrop... Survivors include two sons, Charlie Brown of Le Grand and Cleve Turner of Manteca; two daughters, Mrs. Cora Eubanks of Lathrop and Mrs. Gladys Bennett of Napa; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
