Irma A. Brown, 84, daughter of the first mayor of the City of St. Petersburg, George Edwards, died Thursday (Jan. 4, 1979). She lived at 441 33rd St. North.
Mr. Edwards brought his family to Florida in 1882 and homesteaded in Hernando County but moved to St. Petersburg in 1897 after a hard freeze ruined his orange crop.
In 1903 he was elected mayor and during his administration St. Petersburg became a city. He also served three terms as county commissioner.
A native Floridian, Mrs. Brown was three years old when she came here from Inverness. She was graduated from St. Petersburg High School in 1913. Her late husband, James Brown, was a former supervisor of the post office.
She was a member of the First Congressional Church, St. Petersburg.
Survivors include two daughters, Pauline Wall and Jeanette Millett, and one grandson Michael Millett, all of St. Petersburg.
Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Palms Memorial Funeral Home, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the chapel with Rev. Harleigh Rosenberger officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park.
