This is my direct ancestor. The name on his tombstone is spelled incorrectly. The name of the area (Pugh Ridge) and the cemetery is named after him. The 1838 deed posted here gives his wife's name as Mary, maiden name Day. This Jesse Pugh was not married to Elizabeth, but I cannot remove it. Only the manager of that page can remove it. I cannot remove the notes left on this page or his children's pages either. This Jesse Pugh has been confused with another man by the same name. See Jesse Pugh of Fairfield County, Ohio FAG #

This information was taken from: Film 934877, Item 3, Biography of Belmont Co., Ohio.

"Jesse Pugh was of Scotch-Irish ancestry, and was born in Londoun County, Virginia, whence he came, about 1800, to Belmont County Ohio. He cleared a large tract of land at the mouth of Pea Vine Creek, and formed a family

which later became so numerous in the vicinity that it gave the name to Pugh Ridge. Here Jesse Pugh died, having reared these children: John, Morgan, David, Samuel, Elizabeth and Sarah, all of whom have passed out of this life."

(Jesse Pugh was a soldier in the War of 1812).

I believe this information will prove useful, and interesting, to my fellow Pew Cousins. This information may or may not be about this Jesse Pugh.

Jesse was the son of an as yet unknown Pew who married a woman named Mary Boyd. He was bound out to Caleb Whitaker at age 5 in 1779 in Loudoun County, Virginia. This is an indication that his father likely died during the Revolutionary War. There is a Charity Boide that married a Peugh, who had a son named John Peugh, who was bound out at age 8 to John Osburn in 1785. The name is spelled Pugh/Pew/Peugh in Loudoun County, Virginia records, and there are some men of the same name, but of different ages living at the same time.

Boyd is a variant spelling of Boide, so it is possible, but as yet unproven, that Mary and Charity were sisters who potentially married Pugh brothers. It should be noted that is is unknown if the Pugh men they married were brothers, or close relatives.

Careful research is being undertaken to clarify this portion of the lineage.
