Curtis L. Williamson, Jr., 80 passed away Tuesday June 12, 2012 at his home.

He was born December 14, 1931 in Horry County, SC, a son of the late Curtis L. Williamson, Sr. and Belva Cox Williamson.

His wife, Vivian Squires Williamson, a brother, William W.D. Williamson and sister, Myrtle Lee Payne all predeceased him.

Mr. Williamson graduated from Loris High School in 1949 and then received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of South Carolina in 1960. He served in the Korean War as a fighter pilot and served in the South Carolina Air National Guard from 1956-1966. During that time, he logged 3500 hours of single engine jet time and was discharged with the rank of Major.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, an active member of the M.D. Moore Sunday School class, served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and assisted in the repairs after Hurricane Hugo. Curtis was a member of the Myrtle Beach Rotary Club since 1974 and the club president from 1981-1982. He worked with Santee Cooper from 1966-1993 and retired as Vice-President of the Horry/Georgetown Division. He was the first president for the Myrtle Beach Better Business Bureau, worked with Associated Charities since 1993, and was a member of Elliott Springs Flight Order of the Daedaleans. He was a loving family man and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his son, Colonel (U.S. Marines) Curtis Lee Williamson, III, stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and his wife, Page; a daughter, Patricia Williamson Freyburger and husband, Eric of Myrtle Beach, SC; five grandchildren, Curtis Lee Williamson, IV, Henry Bray Williamson, Hayden O'Quinn Williamson, Brigham Logan Freyburger, and Aubrey Grainger Freyburger, and two sisters, Jo Bell and Suzanne Cooke and husband, Ralph.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Ken Timmerman officiating.

Burial will follow at Grainger Cemetery in the Red Bluff Community.
