Jack Wesley Ashworth (1931 - 2012)

Jack Wesley Ashworth, 80, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2012, surrounded by family. Funeral: 10 a.m. Saturday in Arlington Funeral Home Chapel. Interment: 2:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Canton. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Arlington Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jack W. Ashworth Girls' Athletic Scholarship Fund, care of Comerica Bank, 707 E. Lamar Blvd., Arlington, Texas 76011, or charity of your choice.

Jack was born Sept. 26, 1931, in Canton. He grew up in Dallas and graduated from Sunset High School. After serving in Europe with the U.S. Army, he received his BBA from Texas Tech University. He had an extensive career with Temco, LTV and Texas Instruments as a Cobol Software Developer. As a group supervisor, he was known as an excellent teacher and enjoyed mentoring the other programmers. His passions included reading, cars, technology and sports. Twelve years ago he became an avid fan of the Lamar Viking girls' softball, volleyball, basketball, and soccer teams as well as TAV Club Volleyball. Jack expanded his support to high schools and clubs all over the Metroplex. He was known for his knowledge of the game and the statistics he kept. Jack followed "his girls" through their college careers. His travels took him all over Texas, as far as Oregon and Georgia, as well as on several trips to the NCAA Softball Tournament in Oklahoma City, Okla. Jack was a true FAN. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, C.W. and Katherine Ashworth; and brother, Charles K. Ashworth. We extend sincere gratitude to the ICU staff at Arlington Memorial and Ethicus Hospital.

Survivors: Sister, Mary Ashworth Phillips; nieces, Susanne Ashworth and Cathy Lindemann; nephews, Chuck and Paul Ashworth; great-nephews, Lindy Lindemann and Paul Ashworth Jr.; great-nieces, Melissa Tellez, Lindsey Ashworth and Marguerite Ashworth; and his great-greats, Carson, Peyton, Katherine and Diego.
