On back of the Psalms title page:

Robert Campbell was born Jan:ry : 12 : 1809
James Campbell was born August : 24 : 1810
John Campbell was born Febr'y : 16 : 1813
Hugh Campbell was bornd March : 20 : 1815

Elizabeth Campbell died April : 7 : 1815

G.T. Campbell was
born March the 26 18
1819 died June the 7
1898

My note: This last entry for G.T. Campbell was written in pencil and was obviously added all at one time and so it had to be written after the death of GT (Gustin Turner Campbell) in 1898 when the bible was already over 100 years old.

Past researchers said Hugh had four sons by his first wife and those were assumed to be James, John, Hugh, and Gustin. However, this bible shows that the four sons were Robert, James, John, and Hugh.

Since Elizabeth died in 1815 and Gustin was born in 1819 and wasn't included in the oldest notations in the bible, Gustin couldn't have been the son of Hugh's first wife, Elizabeth Phillips. He must have been the son of Hugh's second wife, Mary Snipes.

Below that, there is some very faded writing that I haven't yet interpreted. If I figure it out I'll add it to this page.

Opposite side of the page transcribed above
Hugh Campbell's book
December 25th 1811

Below that
LONIE CAMPBELL (all caps)
and another word that looks like SUIRE or SUIPE or SURE with an exclamation point after it

(My note: The Irish Volunteer sailed from Larne, Ireland arriving in Charleston, South Carolina Dec 24 or 25, 1792. Note that Hugh Campbell always said he was born in South Carolina in census records and his children, when asked, said their father was born in South Carolina. This record on board the ship Irish Volunteer coming from the port of Larne applies to John Atchison, not Hugh Campbell as far as I can tell. Probably John Atchison gave the bible to Hugh sometime between his arrival in Charleston in 1792 and the first time that Hugh wrote in it in 1796.)

(My note: Hugh Campbell's children by his second wife, Mary Snipes, were not in the bible except for the entry for Gustin Turner Campbell as described above. However, Mary Snipes's birthdate was in the bible.)
