Andrew Jackson Jones was born April 27, 1870 in Braddock Fields, Penn. He moved to Eureka, Kansas in 1879 where he spent most of his boyhood until enlisting in the Army to serve his country in the Spanish-American War. Serving from December 19, 1898 until December 18, 1901. While serving in the military he accepted God Through the Salvation Army.

He married Olive May Paasch, November 5, 1902 at Howard, Ks. He filed on a homestead four miles south of what is now Knowles, OK. and moved there in April, 1906. His marriage was blessed with six boys and one girl. Two boys, Earl Orin and Alvin Royal preceded him in death. His wife, Olive May, passed away on November 13, 1922.

On March 4, 1929 he married Delia Carlisle and moved to Knowles in 1936 where he resided until his death January 6, 1954. He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife Delia, and four sons, Jackson C. of Hugo, Oklahoma: Dale of Beaver, Oklahoma: Vernon and Ogle of Knowles, OK: and one daughter, Mrs. John H. Gerber of Kansas City, Kansas: Eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also beloved step-children and step-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held for A. J. Jones at two o'clock in the High School gymnasium, in Knowles, on Saturday January 9, 1954. Rev. C. S. McElvany, of Loyal, Oklahoma a former minister of the Methodist Church at Knowles officiating assisted by Rev. Pearson, the Minister of the Nazarene Church of Knowles. The Pall bearers were; Sam Kamas, Ed Dixon, Roy Sutherland, H. H. Holtkamp, Frank Cross, and Fred Barby.

Out of town relatives to attend the funeral of A. J. Jones were two of his sisters: Mrs. Frank Glasco of Piedmont, Kansas and Mrs. Susie Hoffman of Arkansas City, Kansas; Alfred Jones and his wife of Enid, Oklahoma; Vernon Jones Jr. of China Lake, California; Darlene Herbstreit and husband Jack of Ridgecrest, California; Homer Cavin and his wife and son of Atlanta, Kansas; Kenneth Glasco of Amarillo, Texas; Mr. & Mrs. Leldon King and Mr. & Mrs. Ora Lee of Bridgeport, Oklahoma.

KNOWLES PIONEER DIES

Mr. A. J. Jones died Wednesday morning following an attack of influenza. He was eighty three years, eight months and six days old. Mr. Jones had lived in or near Knowles since 1906. He was the step-father of W. A., Harry and Albert Carlisle of Laverne, Oklahoma. Immediate relatives are his wife, of the home, four sons and one daughter. Funeral services will be held at the Knowles School auditorium, saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
