Former Bertha Westbrook Was Widow of James H. Reid, Playwright

NEWARK, N.J. (Special) - July 29, 1939
Mrs. Bertha Westbrook Reid, mother of the late Wallace Reid, motion picture actor, died yesterday of heart disease at Presbyterian Hospital.
A native of Medora, Ill., Mrs. Reid moved to St. Louis after she was married to James H. Reid. Mr. Reid, author of "Human Hearts". a play that was a great favorite years ago, died 18 years ago. Her son died in 1923.
In collaboration with her husband, Mrs. Reid wrote "Confession," and "The Night Before Christmas." Her latest works were "Dancers and Pipers" and "The Brontes of Hawarth."
Surviving is a sister, Miss Maude C. Westbrook with whom she lived at 427 Third avenue. A grandson, Wallace Reid, is in Hollywood.
Funeral services will be held Monday at the William H. Cole funeral home. The Rev. John H. Kenne, rector of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Newark, will officate. Cremation will follow.
