William Church Whitner's mother was Elizabeth Eppes Randolph (1845-1933), first daughter of Dr. Arthur Moray (1815-67) and Laura Harrison DuVal Randolph (1820-1907), who was born September 5, 1845, in Tallahassee, Fl. She lived in Sanford, Fl. She married in 1866, Capt. Benjamin Franklin Whitner III (CSA)(1842-1913)(UNC 1866?), son of Capt. Benjamin Franklin, Jr. (CSA)(1819-81)(UGa. c1841) and Sarah Jane Church Whitner (1820-90), of Sanford. He was a member of the Florida state legislature, 1891-93, 1895-99, and superintendent of the state mental institution. He and his father were citrus orchardists, and he served in the 1st Florida Infantry (CSA). His father also served in the 2nd Seminole War, 1837-38. Their seven children were Eston Randolph (1867-1949), Capt. Benjamin Franklin, IV (1868-1952), Sarah Jane (1870-94), Laura Duval (1872-1940), Elizabeth Randolph (1875-1922)(dsp), Maj. Arthur Moray Randolph (1881-1958), and William Church Whitner (1886-1962). Benjamin F. Whitner, Jr. was a surveyor of the Whitner-Orr boundary line between Florida and Georgia.
Eston Randolph Whitner (1867-1949) was born in Madison, Fl. He lived in Jacksonville, Fl. and married in 1895, Ruth Converse Brown (1873-1961), daughter of Louis William (1831-73) and Alice Belinda Corner Brown (1839-1922), of Athens, Oh. Her father was county court clerk in Athens. Their daughters were twins Jane Randolph (1900-70), and Alice Duval Whitner (1900-79).
Laura Duval Whitner (1872-1940 was born perhaps in Sanford, Fl. where she lived. She married in 1895, Sydney Octavius Chase (1860-1941), son of Edwin Theodore (1823-86) and Lucia Tappan Coffin Chase (1820-78), of Germantown, Pa. He was an owner of Chase & Co. citrus company. Their sons were Lt. Com. Randall (1897-1971), Sydney Octavius, Jr. (1900-89), and Capt. Franklin Whitner Chase (1908-86)(Princeton 1931).
