Dorothy L. Pickett, age 87, passed away Friday, May 25, 2012 at her home in Wake Village, Texas.

Mrs. Pickett was born April 11, 1925 in Mena, Arkansas to the late Marvin L. and Fannie (Wilson) Shewmake.

She married the late Lee R. Pickett on December 24, 1946 in Mena, Arkansas. She was a registered nurse and graduated from the fourth nursing class at Texarkana College. She also worked at Red River Arsenal for many years. Her hobby was yard sales and auctions but her main joy in life came from helping others learn about the Bible as one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, George Leon Shewmake, two half-brothers, Marvin Eugene Shewmake and Arthur Lee Shewmake and several step brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her sister, Mary E. Hammond of Texarkana; her brother, Jasper "Buddy" Shewmake of Florida; one half-sister, Shirley Manning of Oden, Arkansas; two half-brothers, Bob Shewmake of Bella Vista, Arkanasas and Wayne Shewmake of Dardenell, Arkansas and several other step brothers and sisters.

Services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the Kingdom Hall in Nash, Texas with James Abbe officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park under the direction of Chapelwood Funeral Home
