S/O Thomas Gannon and Bridget Nicholas of Ireland. The family moved to England before 1851 and settled in Ashton Under Lyne. He was an only child. He married Mary Healey on 30 Jan 1869 at St. Michael's church in Ashton Under Lyne. After the birth of their first son, Joseph Patrick Gannon, the couple sailed for America in 1870 and ended up in Chicago, Illinois where he worked as a fireman at the Chicago Firehouse on E. 14th Street.
The family lived on W. 13th St. The couple had 9 children: Joseph, Thomas, John, Anthony, James, Patrick, William, Elizabeth, and Kathryn.
