William (Billy) Harris Ross, 52, of Covington (formerly of Elkton) went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 18, 2012.

Mr. Ross was born September 17, 1959 in Rockingham County and was the son of Verastarr Butler Ross of Elkton, who survives, and the late Junior Harris Ross. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Carlton Ross and Glen Tolliver.

Billy was a 1977 graduate of Elkton High School, and attended Roanoke College, where he played basketball. In his youth he was a member of Mt. Paran Church in Elkton, and was a United States Army Veteran. One of the highlights of his career, while working at the Boy's Home in Covington as a houseparent, was helping young boys to succeed.

On February 9, 1991 he married, Gail L. Meadows who survives. He is survived by two sons, Gabriel Ross and Christopher Meadows and his wife, Amber; a brother, Thomas Butler; a sister, Sherry Ross; two grandchildren, Chase Meadows and Jaedin Meadows; two uncles, Haywood Butler, Jr. and Vincent Butler; aunt, Joyce Randolph; numerous nephews and nieces; and a very special friend, Becky Heath.

A celebration of life service will be held 3:00 Thursday afternoon, May 24, 2012 at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisonburg, with Dr. Rev. Michael Turner officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Elkton Boys and Girls Club, 302 W. B Street, Elkton, Virginia 22827 or the Elkton Area United Services, P.O. Box 383, Elkton, Virginia 22827.
