Candler – John Manley "Buster" Barnett, 88, of 104 Justice Ridge Road passed away Thursday, June 25, 2009 at the Asheville VA Medical Center.
A native of Spartanburg County, SC. He had resided in Buncombe County most of his life, was formerly employed with Loomey Plastics, Fieldcrest, Inc. and Burlington Industries, was a member of Starnes Cove Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran during WWII.
Mr. Barnett was the son of the late Lewis Arthur Barnett and Belle Mayfield Barnett and husband of Barbara Jean "Bobbie" Ownbey Barnett who died April 21, 2001.
Surviving are his son, John Manley Barnett, Jr. and wife Sue Fortag Barnett of Dover; daughter, Debra Jean Borg and fiance' Fred W. Williams of Lake Lure; sister, Mildred Reynolds of Asheville; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. John T. Tiller officiating. Burial will follow in Sky View Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team.
The family will receive friends 5 to 7 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
