Mrs. Melba Carter Williams, 98, of Waycross passed away Sunday morning (May 20, 2012) after an extended illness.

She was a native of Alma, but she lived in numerous places as the wife of a Methodist minister. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Dr. Dan H. Williams. She graduated from Alma High School and worked as a beautician in the Alma community for several years prior to marriage. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waycross, life member of the Methodist's Women's Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Huxford Genealogical Society.

She is the daughter of the late Luther A. Carter and Mary Kizzie Carter. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Fulton, Hoke and Dorsey Carter; four sisters, Myrtice Haselton, Bonnie Green, Maggie Byrd and Lois Lassiter.

Survivors include one sister-in-law, Marguerite Carter; special niece and nephew, Jackie and Gene Ward; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Tuesday (May 22, 2012) at Friendship United Methodist Church in Bacon County. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends the hour prior to the service at the church.
