Pilar Alvarez, age 73, of East Chicago, passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2009.
Preceded in death by her husband, Teofilo Alvarez; her parents: Jesus and Concepcion Gonzalez; sister, Rosario Rodriguez; and sister-in-law, Marta Gonzalez.
She is survived by her loving children: Lorraine (Israel) Santana, Belinda Alvarez and Michael Alvarez; one grandson, Daniel Santana; four brothers: Catarino (Teresa) Gonzalez, Nolbeto Gonzalez, Manuel (Cathy) Gonzalez, and Salvador (Ana) Gonzalez; five sisters: Cecilia (Richard) Castillo, Rosa Maria (Rodolfo) Sanchez, Blanca Delia Gonzalez, Idoleva Gonzalez and Sylvia (Trino) Gutierrez; brother-in-law, Miguel Rodriguez; and many loving nieces and nephews. Pilar retired after working 35 years with Solo Cup Company.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, godmother, sister and aunt.
Pilar will be missed by everyone who loved her. Visitation will be Friday, February 27, 2009 from 2:00-4:00 and 5:00-9:00 p.m. at Ridgelawn Funeral Home, 4201 W. Ridge Road, Gary, IN 46408 (219-980-5555). Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 28, 2009 with Mass Service at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 144th and Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN. Father Gibson will officiate. Burial at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville.
Pilar will be deeply missed by her loving family and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be deeply appreciated to the Cancer Foundation of your choice. God Grant Her Eternal Rest.
