"Momma" lived on the cotton mill village most of her life. She was blind at an early age from complications of diabetes and died at 7:20pm in the old Parrotts Hospital in Kinston. Parents were James Henry Padrick (12 Oct 1859- 7 Jan 1937) and Palmetta (Mettie)(b.April, 1863) Duffy Evans Padrick. Her father's parents were John Rudolph Padrick and Leah Foster Padrick.

Her siblings were Clara (b. Aug 1883); Ransom Paul (28 Feb 1885- 14 Jun 1923) he died of burns in a boiler explosion in a saw mill, he worked as an Engineer; Deborah (1887-?); Daisy Blanche (May 15,1889-May 7, 1938) she was married to Daniel Isom Hudson; Maude, (1891- ?) married to A. David Coston; Zannie (12 Nov 1893-26 Jul 1985) married to James Paul Coston; Clarence M. (1899-1962); Caleb Kincey (1901-1945); Eldie (1902-?) and Fondos (15 Apr 1909-27 Aug 1971). According to the June 16-19, 1920 Census, they lived in Richlands Township on the West Side.

She married RICHARD "LEE" LEWIS around 1915. She was Mother of EUNICE LEWIS; CHRISTIANA LEWIS FOY; ROSA LEE LEWIS MOFFITT; MATTIE SUSAN LEWIS; MARY ELIZABETH "TOOTS" LEWIS RYAN and husband Eddie; KATHERINE MAE LEWIS; BRYAN CLIFTON LEWIS, SR. and wife GLENNIE M. MANNING LEWIS; WHITLEY LEWIS; ZEALY M. "MARSHGRASS" LEWIS, SR. and RICHARD KERMIT LEWISand Ralph Donald Lewis. She was a loving grandmother to, Edward L. Jr; William Earl; Clyde Cecil; Janie Elizabeth; BRYAN CLIFTON LEWIS, JR.; the late SHELBY JEAN LEWIS; Barbara Ann; Linda Gail; Glenda Michelle; Zealy M., Jr.; Ralph Donald, Jr.; Aaron Lee; Susan Michelle; Lee Marshall; Gregory Lanier.

Sadly, my father told me that his mother passed away while he was surving in the US Army during the Korean War and since Red Cross services depended solely on telegram messages to notify family members, he was heart-broken that he arrived home the day after she was buried. Daddy had missed his "Momma" for 50 years--I know that he is joyful to be with her again.

Cause of death: Complications of diabetes; Cerebral hemorrhage artersclerosis
