His funeral service and burial will be held at the St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church in Nikolski, Alaska with Fr. Andrew Kashevarof officiating. Pallbearers are Arnold Dushkin, Brandon Allen, Peter Dushkin, Gregory Krukoff, Andrew Lestenkof, and Vincent Lestenkof.
There will be an additional service in Anchorage, Alaska at 3 pm, Monday, May 14, 2012 at Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E Street, and officiated by Fr. John Zabinko.
Mr. Dushkin was born May 22, 1945 in Nikolski, Alaska. He was the oldest of seven children.
Nick completed elementary school in Nikolski, Alaska.
He started working as a shearer for Chernofski Sheep Ranch and Aleutian Lifestock. He moved to Unalaska to become a deck hand on Bethel 1 and later an off-loader for Vita Seafoods. He returned to Nikolski and wore many hats as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic; generator operator; and manager of the Nikolski Native Store. He was also involved with the Nikolski Fisherman Association as the President. He was a loving, sweet, brother with a generous heart. If someone needed help he would go out of his way to help them, not expecting anything in return.
Nick is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Arnold and Julia Dushkin; brother and sister-in-law, Alex and Shelly Dushkin, Jr.; sisters, Mary Hillhouse, Ann Kyle, Nina McNeil and sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Michael Griesbaum. He is further survived by many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Alex and Christine Dushkin, infant brother, Michael Dushkin.
Arrangements are with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
