John's father, Jabez B. Tucker, aged 24 died sometime before he was born on March 9, 1874.
The 1880 census revealed his mother had married James Trice and they were still living in DeSoto County, Mississippi on the farm next to his grandfather, John Tucker. Household members: James Trice (28), Mary Trice(29), William Trice (10), David Trice (6), orphan, Jos Tucker (3) and orphan, John Tucker (1).

John David Tucker's obituary in 1958 revealed he was survived by his half brother, Joe Trice. Looking at the 1880 census there are two possibilies (1) William and John David were listed on the 1880 census as Trice which was common those days to use the step father's name until grown. Joseph and John Tucker may have been orphans which later were adopted and given the Trice name. (2) The census taker misunderstood which boys had the Tucker name. The Tucker boys could have been labled orphans because their father died and the two younger boys were the right age to be sons of James and Mary Trice.
As a child, he spent a lot of time with both of his grandfathers, John Bowen Tucker and Aaron Whittaker.

Marriage Bond revealed on January 8, 1898 they agreed to marry within sixty days or pay a fine of $100.

Marriage record revealed J. D. Tucker (23) and Laura A McDaniel (18) married on January 9, 1898 in Prairie County, Arkansas.

The 1900 census revealed John was a farmer and they were renting. They were living in White River, Prairie County, Arkansas. He was born on March 1874 and Laura was born May 1878. Both of their parents were born in Mississippi. They had been married three years, had one child and one still living. Household members: Dave (26), Laura (22) and Jimmie (1).

The 1910 census revealed John was a farmer and an employer. They had been married twelve years, had three children and all were still living. Household members: John D (36), Laura (34), James (11), Laura (6) and Guy B (4).

Draft Card September 12, 1918 revealed he had black hair and black eyes. He was born on March 9, 1874, he was a farmer and lived in Mena, Polk County, Arkansas. His wife, Laura Tucker was his nearest relative.

The 1920 census revealed John worked on his own account and they owned their farm with a morgage. They were living in Center, Polk County, Arkansas. Household members: John D (45), Laura (39), James (21), Fay (16), Guy B. (13), Bruce W. (9) and John (1).

The 1930 census revealed John was a wage worker as a carpenter at a lumbermill. They paid $30 per month rent and were living at 781 South Street in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee. Their daughter, Fay and her husband were living with them. Household members: John D. Tucker (56), Laura Tucker (52), Guy B. (23), Bruce W. Tucker (19), John Tucker (11), Null Adams (23) and Fay Adams (25).

The 1940 census revealed John worked full time for a private owner as a plantation overseer and made $600 in 1939. He had an eight grade education and Laura had an eleventh grade education. They lived with their daughter, Fay Adams and family and had lived on Spring Street, in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee for the past five years.
