Mrs. Beulah Owen Jones, age 60, was killed instantly Friday evening, Oct. 1st, 1971. According to Patrolman Thad Elmore, who investigated, Mrs. Jones was struk by a car driven by Hershel Sheldon Elam, also of Rosman, when she stepped from behind a truck into the path of the Elam's car near the Tracking Station , 7.3 miles above Rosman. No charges were filed according to Elmore.
She was a lifelong resident of Transylvania County, and the oldest daughter of the late James Robert and Sylvitha Galloway Owen. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Nelson Jones, who died in 1942.
Surviving are three daughters; two sons; five sisters, Mrs. Opal Broom, of Travelers Rest, S. C., Mrs. Oleda King of Pelzer, S. C., Mrs. Leota Moore and Mrs. Kanzie Anders of Lake Toxaway, N. C., Mrs. Donna Callahan of Philomath, Oregon, three brothers; L. E., of Lake Toxaway, Olan of Franklin and Furman of Brevard; and six grandchildren.
The body was at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Anna Lou Owen of Tracking Station Road, until placed in the church an hour prior to the services.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Oct. 3rd, at 2:30 p. m. in the Macedonia Baptist Church of which she was a member. Rev. Vesco Manley and Rev. Clifford Hornbuckle officiated. Buried was in the church cemetery(behind).
Pallbearers were Travis Broom, Merle Anders, Michael King, Glenn Fisher, Gerald Owen, and James Hall.
