Surrounded by loving family on Saturday, May 5, Martha L. Connerly passed away at her home in New Haven, IN. after a long battle from many health problems.

Martha was born on August 15, 1925 to Leo and V. Madge (Tabor) Nielander. She was a 1943 graduate of New Castle High School, attended Miami University, joined Alpha Chi Omega sorority and graduated from Ball State University with double Masters in education.
She married Robert W. Connerly on October 29, 1944 and he survives. Martha lived with her husband in Rushville for 51 years and had spent the last five years in New Haven.

Martha taught elementary education for 22 years, from kindergarten to sixth grade. Her first teaching school was in Moscow, IN. She also taught at New Salem, Rushville and Morristown. She was a member of First Presbyterian church of Rushville, serving as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, elder, choir member and representative on the presbytery. Martha was an avid bridge player and prize winning artist and quilter.

In addition to her husband, Robert of New Haven, she is survived by sons, Dr. Patrick W. Connerly of New Haven, Rev. Ronald S. & wife Debra S. Connerly of Cedar Rapids, IA., daughter-in-law, Marty Connerly of Rushville, nieces, Ann Butler of Winston, GA. and Jane Davis of Winter Park, FL, 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her second son, James R. Connerly and a sister, Marjorie Wilson.

Services will be held at 10 AM Thursday, May 10 at First Presbyterian Church in Rushville. Rev. Dena Vittorio will preside. Friends are welcome to visit at Moster Mortuary, Rushville on Wednesday evening from 4 until 7 PM. Burial will be in Rushville's East Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rush County Community Foundation-Bob & Martha Connerly Fund (to be established) or the First Presbyterian Church.
