James G. Abbott, 74, of 329 Westcliffe Way, died Saturday, March 16, 2002.

Born in Laurens County, he was the husband of Carolyn Anderson Abbott and the son of the late Claude C. and Annie Mae Evans Abbott. Mr. Abbott was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II, was employed by Byars Machine Company of Laurens, and a member of Berea First Baptist Church, where he served as a former deacon and member of the Bykota Sunday School Class.

In addition to his wife, surviving are one daughter, Amy A. Todd and her husband, Craig, of Alpharetta, Ga.; one sister, Jean Abbott of Easley; one brother, Tommy Abbott of Greenville; and three grandchildren, Jake Graham, Emma Gilliam, and Ryan Samuel Todd. He was predeceased by four sisters, Beatrice Hardman, Faye Wilson, Helen Tinsley, Frances Sullivan; and one brother, Claude C. Abbott Jr.

Visitation will be today from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Funeral services will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Berea First Baptist Church with Dr. Ronald D. Basughan and the Rev. Clyde Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Bykota Sunday School Class and employees of Byars Machine Company.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Berea First Baptist Church, 529 Farrs Bridge Road, Greenville, SC 29611, or Miracle Hill Children's Home, 102 Drummond Lane, Pickens, SC 29671.

The family is at the residence.
