Earl grew up in rural Fremont, NC. The start of WWII found him in Norfolk, VA. His wartime activities are sketchy but it is known he worked for the War Dept., based out of the NOB, Norfolk. After the war, he entered the construction field. He excelled in his profession, eventually he became the Superintendent of Construction for a large general contractor. He was most proud of his work supervising the conversion of the old Norfolk Courthouse into the Gen. Douglas MacArthur Memorial. He finally finished the task after the death of Gen. MacArthur when he officially sealed the General's tomb. Earl was an avid boater and fisherman. He was a true "family man" and good neighbor to all.
