She was born Goldie Ellen Smith to William Jackson Smith and Etta El Luvada Vernon in Collin County, Texas on October 18, 1905.

Goldie became the the wife of Johnie William Browning, Sr.. They were the parents of eight children.

Within a few hours of each other, both Goldie and her last child succumbed to influenza . They are buried together in one grave in the Bethlehem Cemetery, Arnold, Collin County, Texas.

Goldie's mother, Etta Ella Luvada Vernon, was descended from Sarah "Sally" Boone Willcockson, eldest sister of frontiersman, Daniel Boone. Etta Ella descended through both Elizabeth Willcockson Cutbirth and David Willcockson. Wilcockson cousins, Sabrina Elizabeth Cutbirth, granddaughter of Elizabeth Willcockson Cutbirth and David L. Willcoxson, son of David Willcockson were married about 1914. Their son, Granville P. "Dee" Willcoxson, was Goldie's great grandfather.

The Willcoxson name was originally Wilcox, then through natural evolution - Wilcox'son. Down through the years, numerous variations of the spelling appear in the family's documents - both public and personal.
