Margaret attended Duckworth school what is now Dawn hill, then Hico where Gates Rubber company is now located , then to Sequah finishing at Prairie View, which was the 8th grade-"Since I didn't have nothing else to do I went threw the 8th grade again, I Stayed at home until I married Floyd".

In about 1919 or 1920 there was a flu epidemic all the Schools closed, Lots of people died, 3 in one family who were our neighbors, The next winter we had the flue, The neighbors who lost 3 brought food to us but they'd set it on the porch , Afraid to come in..

During the depression Floyd and Margaret moved to the Keller Ranch on the Flint creek, Margaret took care of the Cabins, there must have been 6 to 8 or maybe 9 of them and Floyd went to work for Delaware county running the road grader at the same time was a Deputy for Delaware co. for 6 years , he recalls one incident during those , it was the capture of one of eleven escaped convicts that broke out of the Federal Penitentiary at Lansing Kansas. He and Ed Bruce were putting a blade on the grader, 3/4 miles east of Dripping Springs , this man walked passed them to a house where Andy bill Lived and asked Mrs. Bill for breakfast, The Lady of the house not knowing he was an escapee, supposed he was a jobless itenerant, she fixed him a nice breakfast, He was real nice to her, He got up and looked out window where Floyd and Ed were working on the grader asking who they were, She told him their names and said they worked for the county, In the meantime Floyd was suspicious telling Ed " That one of those convicts, Explaining the man behavior as he walked past he didn't look at Floyd or Ed nor speak, Instead of going down the HI way as a hitch hiker would, he crossed over the HI way and took a county road, Floyd knew everyone in the part of the country. He'd looked him over pretty good and knew he was a stranger. they knew the city Marshal of Siloam Springs had them on the run a couple days earlier and got some shots off at them when the three of them ran their car off in a ditch and took off on foot , then these 3 convicts had tried to hold up a truck shooting into it four times, they had split up and this one was circling around trying to get back with the other two, He left the house not eating all his breakfast going around the opposite side of the house avoiding Floyd and Ed, Floyd caught up with him after he'd got out of the yard gate, Walking up real close taking hold of him at the same time saying "Mister what did you say your name was? by this time had him searched, then said " Mr. I am a Deputy Sheriff and you are under arrest , Floyd was unarmed and Luckily so was the convict and gave no resistance'.. On many occasions when an arrest was made Floyd would take the prisoners by his home for Margaret to feed before taking them on to Jail. pay for a Deputy was 1 Dollar per job and 10 cents a mile whether it was to serve some papers or an arrest. some other things Floyd did was trucking and was a board member on the R.E.A for 28 years most of the time as a voting Delegate. These meeting took him to or across almost all the united states. .
