Mr Duke is survived by his son Samuel "Sammy" Carl Duke of Rocky Mount; longtime caregiver and companion of 16 years, Sharon E. Joyner of Nashville; sisters Virginia D. Moss and Shirley D. Staton and Husband Wiley all of Rocky Mount. Frances D. Dunn and husband Freddie of Nashville; brothers Swindell Duke, Kenneth Duke both of Rocky Mount, along with several nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends, and his faithful canine companion "Lady".
Mr. Duke served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, upon his return he served on the Honor Guard at the VFW Post #2057,
WC was a member of Beulah Church of Christ and Rocky Mount Christian Church, he was active in a variety of clubs, the Elk's Lodge, The Moose Lodge, a driver and member of the Momeyer Senior Citizens Club along with the Twin County Sams's Camping Club. He enjoyed dancing and traveling.
Funeral services were at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home, Tuesday September 5, 2006 at 11 a.m. Burial was at Forest Hill Cemetery , Nashville. The family received friends Monday evening at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30.
Flowers are accepted and memorials may be made to Momeyer Senior Citizens c/o Momeyer Baptist Church, 4967 Momeyer Way, Nashville NC, 27856.
