Johan was born at the family estate, Sonsbeek, in Arnhem. He died January 31, 1871, s-Gravenhage (The Hague.) He was buried February 4, 1871 in Scheveningen, Ter Navolging, grave number 62.
Johan was a lawyer. He was Mayor of Naaldwijk from February 1, 1940 until May 1, 1851. The family moved to Doesburg in May 1851. He was Deputy Bencher at Doesburg. When he was Mayor of Naaldwijk the family lived at their home, Dyckerwael, at s-Gravenzande. Therefore, he needed special permission from the Governor of South Holland, because the Mayor must live in the town of his Mayor job. After the death of his wife, he left Doesburg in 1868 to s-Gravenhage, The Hague.
He married his niece, Wilhelmina van Olden, December 27, 1832.
