Charles' sense of independence and ingenuity was evident through his work as a self-employed service technician, which followed his graduation from Blue Ridge School in 1980. He also had a 'need for speed', being a NASCAR fan and remote control boat hobbyist. He was an ardent fan of the Ford Team and this characteristic of loyalty could be seen in his roles as husband, father, grandfather and friend. He had a great love for his family and friends.
