Age 36. Was likely born at Parsons Park farm, St. Neot, Cornwall in about 1876. He was the son of James Chapman and Isabella Chapman. He did farming work alongside his father, but this did not work out so he emigrated to Canada in 1906 and then in 1910 settled in Spokane, Washington where he obtained employment as a cemetery worker. He then returned to Cornwall in late 1911. He married Sarah Elizabeth Lawry. Chapman and his wife decided to emigrate to Fitzburn, Wisconsin to live near Sarah's brother's home. They chose the maiden voyage of the Titanic and travelled as second class passengers. Husband and wife both died in the sinking. Only John's body was recovered.
