Joseph Sparks Jones, Joe, heard his Lord s voice and followed his calling on April 12, 2012. Visitation will be 2pm until 3:30pm Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 3:30pm in Greenview Memorial Chapel with burial to follow in Greenview Memorial Park with military honors at the graveside. He was born in Montgomery, AL on August 26, 1924. Joe was a descendant of many valiant and courageous soldiers and by their example was compelled at the tender age of 17, to enlist and fight alongside his countrymen in the United States Navy during WWII. He served bravely as a gunner s mate on the USS LCI #5 and the USS L. He was born in Montgomery, AL on August 26, 1924. He served bravely as a gunner s mate on the USS LCI #5 and the USS LST 1109 in the European and Pacific. He returned home to marry his high school sweetheart and lifelong companion, Helen Neal Theroux in Florence, AL. After the war Joe earned his high school diploma and entered Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) and in 1950 graduated with a Bachelor s degree in Forestry and Land Management. He worked for St. Regis Paper Company in Land Acquisition for 35 years. Joe loved his country and was actively involved in local, state and federal politics, not as an office holder but as an advocate for democracy through the might of the pen. Joe is predeceased by his eldest daughter, Laura Elizabeth Jones Barnett (Renato) and a grandson, Sean Sebastian Barnett. Survivors include his loving and faithful wife of 68 years, Helen Theroux Jones; daughter, Bettie Jo Theroux (Scott Mills); grandchildren, Adrian Barnett, Ilex Cook (Jonathon), Ivan Iwanowski, Jackson Tyler; one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Cook; nephews, Mike and Tom Jones, Ed Stanfield; niece, Sheldon Eller and Joe s dearest cousin with whom he was raised, William Ruth (Anne). The family wishes to thank our friends and caregivers at Harbor Chase Assisted Living and to Haven Hospice for their outpouring of loving care and concern during our most difficult hours. Memorials may be offered to Haven Hospice or the charity of your choice. Funeral Arrangements are under the care and direction of Funerals by T. S.
