MARS HILL - Services for Gershon Smith, 72, of Mars Hill, who died Saturday, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Old Bull Creek Baptist Church.
The Revs. Clell Fisher and Orlando Hawkins will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Grandsons will be pallbearers.
Mr. Smith, a native of Madison County, was a retired farmer and a lifelong member of Long Branch Baptist Church.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Myrtle Smith; five daughters, Mrs. Margaret Metcalf of Weaverville, Mrs. Ella Mae Hughes of Lake City, Missouri, Mrs. Estoy McCallister of Piedmont, South Carolina, Mrs. Beulah DeBruhl of Mars Hill and Mrs. Hilda Metcalf of Asheville; seven sons, George of Flag Pond, Tennessee, Bon, Don, and Bud, all of Asheville, Hobert of Mars Hill, Hal of Weaverville and John Smith; a sister, Mrs. Zora Edwards of Marshall; a brother, McKinley Smith of West Palm Beach, Florida; 33 grandchildren and 12 great great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Holcombe Funeral Home, where the body will remain until placed in the church for the services.
The family will be at the home of Mrs. Myrtle Smith at 123 Crestnut Street.
