Lonnie Leo Eppard Sr., 85, of Elkton, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at Journey's Crossing in Elkton.

Mr. Eppard was born Nov. 1, 1926, in the Thoroughfare area of Elkton, and was the son of the late Elmer Clyde and Glady Hensley Eppard. In addition to his parents, brothers Hensel and Berlon Eppard, and a grandson, Justin Wilson, preceded him in death.

Mr. Eppard attended the Maple Springs School near Elkton and in his youth attended Hensley's United Methodist Church and Furnace U.M.C., and later became a member of the Jollett United Methodist Church. He previously had been employed by Bond Lumber Co. in McGaheysville and Haden's Furniture Store in Elkton, where he repaired/finished furniture and installed carpet. Later, he retired from Grand Piano. He owned his own shop, where he specialized in upholstery and woodworking. Mr. Eppard was an avid deer and raccoon hunter.

On June 2, 1950, he married Lois Jean Samuels Eppard, who survives. Also surviving is a son, Lonnie L. Eppard Jr. of Elkton; a daughter, Betty Lou Hensley and husband, Tommy, of Elkton; two brothers, Eugene Eppard of Stanardsville, and Jesse Eppard of Elkton; two sisters, Beulah Lam of Elkton, and Beatrice Dean of Baltimore, Md.; three granddaughters, Kimberly Dean, Amy Wilson and Stephanie Jadrnicek; four great-grandchildren, Jacob and Isaac Dean, Zachary Wilson and Sage Jadrnicek; numerous nephews and nieces.

A funeral service will be held at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2012, with Pastor Nona F. Allen officiating. Burial will follow at the Jollett Cemetery in Page County near Elkton.

There will be no family night, but friends may call at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton after 2 p.m. on Friday or at the Eppard home anytime.
