Muncie Evening Press, Muncie, Indiana - Wednesday, June 3, 1992 - H. Phillip Pierce dies; was active in the church - H. Phillip Pierce, 71, Munce, died Tuesday in Ball Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in Muncie, the son of Harry A. and Clara E. Clark Pierce, graduated from Daleville High School in 1938, and from Indiana Business College, and spent most of his life in this area. Mr. Pierce was the owner and operator of Pierce Satellite Experts for the past several years. He was earlier employed as a controller for H.L. Hunt and Indiana Rock Wool. Mr. Pierce was also employed as an accountant with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and Ball Brothers (now Ball Corp.). Mr. Pierce served with the Air Force during World War II serving as a weatherman, radiosoynde operator, and forecast worker. He helped set up three weather stations in the Aleutian Islands. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as a bishop. He also served in Indianapolis with the Stake Presdency and also with the High Council. Mr. Pierce worked as a representative in the Mormon Church Welfare program in this region which includes Detroit, Chicago, Cincinnati, and Indianapolis. He served as a Scoutmaster and as a committee chairman with the Scouts. Mr. Pierce was a graduate of Chanute Field Air Base meteorological technician. Survivors include his wife for 46 years, Bett J.; a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Christine) Schrader, Fishers; four sons, Michael Pierce, Indianapolis, Gregory Pierce, Rexburg, Idaho; Jeffrey Pierce, Indianapolis, and Tim Pierce, Muncie; 16 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4800 Robinwood. Burial will be in Tomlinson Cemetery, southwest of Muncie. Calling at Meeks Mortuary will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday or at the church at 1:00 p.m. Friday.
