Flier-Son of Former Residents Accorded Military Funeral
Full military funeral services were conducted at Bradford Wednesday afternoon for Staff Sergeant Franklin James Albright, 26, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell B. Albright of that village and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. George Albright and Mrs. Edith Stump of Arcanum.
The flier met his death last Friday night when a twin-engine plane crashed near Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was one of six persons aboard the plane when it encountered a violent electrical storm. All six were killed in the crash.
Sgt. Albright, stationed at Godman Field, Kentucky, was crew chief of the service plane of Major General Charles L. Scott, commander at Fort Knox, Kentucky. The ill-fated plane was enroute to Augusta, Georgia, where General Newgarden was to review troops of the Tenth Armored Division. General Newgarden was among those killed in the accident.
The body of the flier was sent home Monday and a guard of honor and a firing squad from Fort Knox accompanied the body. Burial was made in the Abbottsville cemetery.
Sgt. Albright is a graduate of the Bradford High School and was married only one month ago. He had served in the Army Air Corps since June 1941, and held the rank of serial engineer. Prior to that time, he had been employed by the Waco Aircraft Company at Troy.
He is survived by the wife, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Russell B. Albright, his grandparents in Arcanum, a sister, Mary Alice, at home, a brother, William, also at home, and another brother, Berman, stationed at El Paso, Texas. Three of his aunts attended the Arcanum high school, Mrs. Mae Kelch and Mrs. William Ross Miller, Dayton, and Mrs. H. W. Ackley, of Columbus.
